Submission - Poetry

Give, by James Sandoval

.

.

Give            (Heat)

Pleasures rise

Silly Sensuality     exploring hands that

Run           smooth Skin

       moist Lips

Most temperate

So divine is     Body,     Soul

Enhanced by

Enchanting embrace    locking Gaps

Almost forever

     passionate ecstasy    Love

Intertwining     giggles    shared Joy

Awkward seduction    man by temptress

She enjoys, too

Running hands find     hills    climb

she yelps because     touch is cold

But caves are warm

He explores adventurously

Lower…

Lower…

       seductive Waist

      luscious Hips

   search    gold        cave

He digs

She rattles     velvet earth        cave

He digs faster

hills    fruited flesh earth begin    shake madly

He searches     searches     gold

But finds jewels     silver instead

    earth screams    exultant prayer

GOD…GOD…GOD…!

Sand drips patiently down     glass

    watches…

He digs

She gasps   syneresis    O’s     OO’s

    releases her treasure    him

He does, too

they marvel    what they have done

(Heat) moves away      bodies

   fading ceiling    their eyes

They wait     watch their eyes    see

Who will fade      night first

Kissing      gaping eyes

Nibbling pieces    love

     their eyes

   sand slowly drips down     hourglass

Black become     eyes.

The Entire Way Through

by Lauren Vargas (Second-Year: Cowell)

You are just the Titanic
I am a tiny sliver of ice.
My head is a knife,
Waiting
Ready to puncture a frozen wound
Through your little window of opportunity.
Waiting
To teach you a little lesson.
My blood remains blue the entire way through.
But my core is red with fury,
Waiting to see you destroyed, the entire way through.
My bucket list is all dried up…
With nothing to lose, nothing to fear - I will melt with you
Towards the abyss.

The entire way through.

The entire way through, I will laugh hysterically…
Chuckle gallantly into your stiff eardrum,
The same one that I once moaned into.

I am thrilled to watch you float belly down,
the entire way to shore, the entire way through.

Whale Rock

by Maya Weeks (Third-Year: Kresge)

At my house
you smoked cigarettes;
I emptied the trash
full of ashes.
Together we drank
all of my parents’ beers
while they made us dark
like ale. You fooled
the mosquitoes
blowing smoke in
like fog with
night’s come-on.
And the struck matches
lit up your eyes.
My dog thought
you smelled nice.
Those were the days
of sand, slamming
screen doors and flannel,
unreal sunsets and drunk
driving. We kissed and
it was good. We went to bed
and woke up sober.
